4.44: Know that an Addition Polymer is Formed by Joining Up Many Small Molecules Called Monomers

MONOMER: Unit molecule which forms a polymer
s
FORMATION OF ADDITION POLYMERS:
s
  • Addition Polymers are formed by joining many small molecules called Monomers
  • Alkenes can act as monomers as they are unsaturated so can form bonds with other monomers
s
Examples: Formation of Poly (Chloroethene)

s Diagram showing the formation of Poly (Chloroethene) from the joining of many Chloroethene monomers
