4.46: Understand How to Deduce the Structure of a Monomer from the Repeat Unit of an Addition Polymer and Vice Versa

DEDUCING STRUCTURE OF MONOMER FROM A REPEAT UNIT:

To deduce the structure of a monomer from a repeat unit of an addition polymer, you need to reverse the process of drawing a repeat unit from a monomer (explained in 4.45):
s
  • Change the single bond in repeat unit into a double bond in monomer
  • Remove bond from each end of the repeat unit
